The difference between tungsten cobalt alloy and high speed steel

What is tungsten cobalt alloy? What is high speed steel? Both have the characteristics of high hardness, so what is the difference between the two? Listen to the editor to talk with you about the meaning and difference between the two!

High-speed steel, also known as wind steel or front steel, also known as white steel. It is a tool steel with high hardness, high wear resistance and high heat resistance, which can be hardened even when cooled in air during quenching, and is very sharp. High-speed steel is a kind of alloy steel with complex composition, which contains carbide-forming elements such as tungsten, molybdenum, chromium, vanadium, and cobalt. It can still maintain high hardness under high heat generated by high-speed cutting (about 500 ), and the HRC can be above 60. This is the most important characteristic of high-speed steel - red hardness.

High-speed steel is mainly used to manufacture complex thin-edged and impact-resistant metal cutting tools, as well as high-temperature bearings and cold extrusion dies, such as turning tools, drills, hob, machine saw blades and high-demand dies.

The main components of tungsten-cobalt alloys are tungsten carbide (WC) and cobalt (Co) as a binder. Its grade is composed of "YG" ("hard and cobalt" in Chinese Pinyin) and the percentage of average cobalt content. For example, YG8 means the average WCo=8%, and the rest is tungsten-cobalt carbide of tungsten carbide.

Tungsten-cobalt alloy has a series of excellent properties such as high hardness, wear resistance, good strength and toughness, heat resistance and corrosion resistance, especially its high hardness and wear resistance. Carbide is widely used as a material, such as turning tools, milling tools, drills, boring tools, etc.
